Stress and Emotional Support

Stress is a common experience. It happens when the balance between demands made on us by life, work, finances, our families and friends etc, start to exceed our resources e.g time, energy, capacity.

When we experience stress for a short period and then are able to recover, all is well. Sleep, excercise, meeting with friends, walking in nature, engaging in an activity we enjoy, can all help us regain our emotional and psychological balance

However, when stress persists, or becomes more intense, it can become overwhelming, and we may need additional support to cope. Clarity of thinking, memory and concentration are impacted. Our sleep can become broken or elusive. Poor sleep increases our stress, and round it goes.

We may feel helpless, blame ourselves, feel hopeless.

Speaking to somebody can help us to start identifying causes and decide on a course of action.
